Late into my husbands most recent deployment one of my best friends (who happens to also be a neighbor of ours) had orders to move clear across the country. Needless-to-say this is the less glamorous part of living a military life. We moved here the very same day, endured 4 deployments together, countless TDYs (temporary duty assignments, think long business trips), the birth of her baby boy, meeting each other’s parents, puppy playdates, lots of buddy booze walks… guys so much over three years. I was devastated and not ready for this goodbye.
Jessica is also my healthy foodie friend! If I’m in a recipe slump, she’s the girl I go to. Introducing me to an alternative idea and then the next that I am also grateful for and always try to implement. She introduced me to the wonderful world of juicing! Now, because she had the juicer I always came to her. We would frequently have juicing parties down the street with her 18 month old after his naps.
But now that she was leaving and packing up her juicer with her I decided that I had to get one! Good thing it was right around my birthday so that is what I got. I bought a juicer from Breville which they have recently discontinued but there are plenty of other great not so expensive juicers out there to choose from!
The ABC juice recipe is nothing new to the juicing word but I like to add a sweet yam into the mix! Didn’t think yams had a lot of water? Well they definitely do. The juice that comes from the yam is so much thicker than the juice from any other vegetable I have juiced. And personally I would prefer to drink something with a little bit of mouthfeel to it. If you don’t like that then omit the yam and add another carrot.
This ABC juice is all things…
Earthy
Refreshing
Sweet
Healthy
Complex
There is a happy ending to this story. Multiple happy endings actually! First, I have my own juicer and not mooching off my friend anymore. Second, Jessica didn’t end up moving! Her husband’s orders were cancelled and they are staying here longer. I’m taking it as a blessing and savoring all the time we have together. And now she and Isaac can join me over at my house for juicing dates!
I can’t wait to hear about your adventures trying out this recipe! Please come back and tell me how it goes and stay tuned for more recipes!
