Happy Treat Yo Self Day!  Let’s celebrate with this protein packed Chunky Monkey Smoothie Bowl.  A healthy ode to the Ben and Jerry’s famous flavor by the same name.  You see that Parks and Recs episode where Donna, Tom, and Ben dedicate the entire day treating themselves to all things fanc?  Well that day was 3 years ago and it is yet again that day! October 13th is a dedicated to treating yo’ self, so go do just that. With this smoothie bowl.

This treat was an amazing chocolatey, banana reprieve on a hot day in Alabama after a run.  You guys, its like 97% humidity here and after this last 2 mile run I was actually dripping! Um, in Spokane we don’t have that kind of humidity sooooo I haven’t needed a smoothie bowl like this like ever!  But I’m sure glad I had it after that workout.

Have you heard of the Balanced Bites Podcast?  Its all things Paleo and functional medicine. So right up my ally!  For this smoothie bowl to be as filling as I say it is you need to add protein to it.  I’ve had qualms with many protein powders because of their all their added fillers, sugars, and honestly the artificial source of proteins.

And then in walks in Vital Proteins!  I was introduced to Vital Proteins through the podcast and decided to give it a try.  I fell in love with Unflavored Vital Proteins Collagen Protein Peptides at first sight.  The peptides are slightly different than the gelatin in that it is broken down more and they will dissolve so easily in cold liquid.  That’s a win in the smoothie book!!  So find yourself a good protein for this smoothie and I highly recommend Vital Proteins.

Chunky Monkey Smoothie Bowl

Instructions
  1. Place frozen bananas, almond milk, almond butter, cocoa powder, vanilla and maple syrup into the blender and blend until smooth. If too think add more milk 1 Tbsp at a time until the consistency is to your liking!
  2. Add Unflavored Vital Proteins Collagen Protein Peptides and blend for 15 seconds (no more or it will become too frothy).
  3. Pour into bowl and top with all your favorite accompaniments.
