It’s no secret that I LOVE to read and most nights and days really I would rather stick my nose in a good book than anything else. I start my day reading the Bible and finish my day reading a good book from a shelf. I make time during my day to step away from my computer to read for an hour or two. Learning is something I never want to stop doing. Keeping my mind alert and healthy with books full of knowledge and exposing myself to stories keeps my storytelling as a photographer flourishing and alive! Reading words improves my words and the way I communicate. I never want to stop having a book in my hand!
I keep track of all my books on Goodreads. Don’t have a GoodReads account yet? I love it! Its like Facebook for lovers of reading. You can save books you have read, want to read and are currently reading. And with your “currently reading” books you can track your progress by adding the page number you are at. I love it because I love seeing progress although I sometimes forget to update my book progress and end up hitting “I’ve finished this book!”
Another feature I love that Goodreads has is their scanner!! You can scan the cover of books and put them in your “want to read” list. This comes in really handy when pursuing the library or a local bookstore and don’t want to remember the catching title or cover from a book you came across. And its so easy and fun that you won’t have to type in the name of a book to the search bar ever again.
If you find yourself on Goodreads give me a follow so we can be bookish friends! Click here for my account! I cannot wait to see what you are reading and add more recommended books to my lists.
In April I ended up reading/listening to 6 books! I know I could hardly believe it myself. But it happened and I want to challenge myself to do more of the same. I have gone to the library and placed holds on a lot of books I want to read. And of course, as you guessed it they all came in at the same time!! Ugh soooo I have better get reading. Here are the books I hope to finish in May…
1 || Educated: A Memoir
(I’m about 1/2 way through this one and holy cow!! I can’t believe this is real life!)
An unforgettable memoir in the tradition of The Glass Castleabout a young girl who, kept out of school, leaves her survivalist family and goes on to earn a PhD from Cambridge University
2 || The Mothers: A Novel
A dazzling debut novel from an exciting new voice, The Mothers is a surprising story about young love, a big secret in a small community—and the things that ultimately haunt us most.
3 || The Philosopher’s Flight: A Novel
A thrilling debut from ER doctor turned novelist Tom Miller, The Philosopher’s Flight is an epic historical fantasy set in a World-War-I-era America where magic and science have blended into a single extraordinary art.
4 || What’s Best Next: How the Gospel Transforms the Way You Get Things Done
Productivity isn’t just about getting more things done. It’s about getting the right things done—the things that count, make a difference, and move the world forward. In our current era of massive overload, this is harder than ever before. So how do you get more of the right things done without confusing mere activity for actual productivity?
5 || We Were the Lucky Ones: A Novel
“Love in the face of global adversity? It couldn’t be more timely.” —Glamour
Inspired by the incredible true story of one Jewish family separated at the start of World War II, determined to survive—and to reunite—We Were the Lucky Ones is a tribute to the triumph of hope and love against all odds
Audio-books on Overdrive while I walk Sadie and am at the gym:
1 || Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less
The Way of the Essentialist isn’t about getting more done in less time. It’s about getting only the right things done. It is not a time management strategy, or a productivity technique. It is a systematic discipline for discerning what is absolutely essential, then eliminating everything that is not, so we can make the highest possible contribution towards the things that really matter.
2 || Grace (Eventually): Thoughts on Faith
In Grace (Eventually): Thoughts on Faith, the author of the bestsellers Traveling Mercies and Plan B delivers a poignant, funny, and bittersweet primer of faith, as we come to discover what it means to be fully alive.

6 || The Alice Network: A Novel
In an enthralling new historical novel from national bestselling author Kate Quinn, two women—a female spy recruited to the real-life Alice Network in France during World War I and an unconventional American socialite searching for her cousin in 1947—are brought together in a mesmerizing story of courage and redemption.
Well there you have it folks… My must finish books are The Alice Network because it is a bookclub book. Educated because its way overdue (thank goodness the on base library doesn’t have overdue fees!!). Essentialism & What’s Best Next because this season in my life productivity and time management are huge themes that need to be worked on that the Lord is making important. And We Were the Lucky Ones because my heart needs more WWII novels! Everything else is just bonus points! 🙂
With all that… What are you reading this month?? Any good books you have come across lately?? I really want to know because we are spending our summer and fall in Oklahoma and I will need plenty to read and listen to in the AC!

Love this post! I will research these books and see if I would like a few! You have really inspired me to read or “listen” more! I am currently listening to “Bright Line Eating” by Susan Peirce Thompson, PH.D. and it is very eye-opening about the effects sugar and flour have on the human brain.

I used to LOVE Goodreads! Like I was on it more than Facebook for sure. Slowly I relied less and less on it because I pretty much only read business books. I need to get back on a read a fiction book based on reviews every now and then 😉 Thanks for reminding me of this amazing app, Melissa!

I have never heard of Goodreads, this sounds amazing! There is nothing more relaxing than a good book at the end of the day, or even just during a time to relax. I love getting lost in a good book!
